BioResources Early Career Investigator Award

BioResources is seeking nominations from its Editorial Board members for promising early professional career individuals to compete for the 2021 BioResources Early Career Investigator Award. BioResources Editorial Board members are encouraged to nominate an early career colleague whom they consider to have contributed impactful and/or innovative research and can submit recent research for a competition.

The award will recognize an early career researcher’s novel, impactful, and captivating research in any experimental or theoretical frameworks related to lignocellulosic materials, chemicals, and applications for new uses and new capabilities.

Nominate an exceptional early career colleague by September 30, 2021 who will then be given until January 14, 2022 to submit their completed research article for the competition.

To make a nomination, please complete this form and also send a SINGLE PDF FILE to containing the 3 following items listed below in this order by Sept. 30, 2021:

  1. A preliminary abstract of the proposed or recently completed research that the nominee will submit to BioResources for the Award competition.
  2. A CV that includes the nominee’s education, up to 10 relevant publications, any previous honors, awards, or appointments, and lastly a brief description that highlights their research activities.
  3. A nomination letter from the Editorial Board member discussing the impact of the individual’s research and relevance to applications within industry.


  • Doctorate degree in progress or must have been earned in the last 10 years.
  • No self-nominations are allowed

Before nomination, nominee’s consent must be obtained to share their information. This is necessary for BioResources and North Carolina State University to comply with laws and rules regarding processing personal data.

 Additional Information:

  • Winner will receive a $1,000 honorarium, eco-friendly BioResources tote bag, & an award plaque.
  • The award winner will be invited to attend the 21st International Symposium on Wood, Fiber and Pulping Chemistry (ISWFPC), where the award will be presented.
  • Winner will be honored/mentioned at ’22 ISWFPC on March 8-10, 2022, in Raleigh, NC, USA.
  • Winner’s poster will be on display for attendees of ISFWPC to view at one of the conference sponsors’ booth, BioResources. If needed, virtual attendance will be allowed.
